Thief steals poppy appeal money from Spelthorne's offices

A thief has made off with a charity box containing money for the annual poppy appeal in broad daylight.

The man was caught on CCTV on Monday November 2 when he was seen stealing a Royal British Legion poppy appeal box from Spelthorne Borough Council offices in Knowle Green, Staines.

It was just before 1pm then the man detached the box, which was chained to a desk, before making off with the collected money.

Council leader John Packman, said: "It is almost incredible that someone would want to steal money that goes to support ex-servicemen and women from conflicts all over the world. "Fortunately, in this instance, we have clear pictures of this criminal and he can expect to be brought to account very soon."

The police have been informed and are following up the theft, but it is not known how much was in the box.
