Laleham school gets visit from a star maker

Posted by Mark Goode on Jan 28, 10 04:01 PM in Schools/colleges

An astronomer visited a Laleham primary school on Tuesday January 26 to teach them about star constellations.

A tunnel and a dome was set up in Buckland Primary School, in Berryscroft Road, which all 300 pupils crawled through in groups of 30.

The lights were then turned out, and the children were told stories of ancient Greek myths and their relationship with the stars, and were taught how to recognise constellations such as Orion.

Emma Hawthorn said: "It was to support their science learning, but was also to tie into science week, which is being held next week. The astronomer had been all around the world to conferences on stars, and the children really enjoyed it."

We'd like to hear from you.
