Spelthorne council is one of the 68 local authorities in the country who have microchips installed in their bins.

The news comes after campaign group Big Brother Watch sent a Freedom of Information Request to every council in the country to find out if they micro chipped household collection rubbish bins.

A vintage double-decker bus visited Staines High Street on Friday February 26 to get people to stop wasting medicine.

The NHS Surrey's pharmacy team took to the streets as part of a road show to drive home the message 'the most costly medicine is the one that is never taken,' which costs the NHS £8 million each year.

A four-hour course has started in Staines for people who drive a few miles an hour above the speed limit.

The course was officially launched on Friday February 26 at three centres in Surrey, which aims to generate a better understanding of the consequences of speeding and raise awareness of sticking to speed limits.

Residents in Spelthorne will face a 0% increase in council tax and staff will forgo any increase in pay or allowances as the budget for 2010/11 was announced on Thursday (24).

In a full council meeting held at the Civic Offices, in Knowle Green, Leader of Spelthorne council John Packman also declared that cuts were to be made to make savings in an effort to balance the budget.

Mr Packman stated that due to the economic downturn the council needed to help residents that were finding times tough.

A former Laleham councillor who was found drunk in his car by police has walked away without a prison sentence after appearing at Woking Magistrates Court this morning (24).

Christopher Kuun, 48, had been told that he could face a custodial sentence prior to sentencing, but due to his ill health and his good character was banned from driving and given a 12 month supervision order and a 12 month community order.

STAINES police constables could be sharing office space with Spelthorne Council's offices by the beginning of April.

People living in York Road have said that in the last 18 months, five modern-styled street lamps have only been on at night for six weeks.
