Four fruit trees were planted at a Laleham school on Thursday (11).

The four trees were added to an orchard at Buckland Primary School, in Berryscroft Road, which were donated by Denise Turner-Stewart, Surrey County councillor for Staines South and Ashford West.

An astronomer visited a Laleham primary school on Tuesday January 26 to teach them about star constellations.

A tunnel and a dome was set up in Buckland Primary School, in Berryscroft Road, which all 300 pupils crawled through in groups of 30.

The lights were then turned out, and the children were told stories of ancient Greek myths and their relationship with the stars, and were taught how to recognise constellations such as Orion.

Emma Hawthorn said: "It was to support their science learning, but was also to tie into science week, which is being held next week. The astronomer had been all around the world to conferences on stars, and the children really enjoyed it."

Staines got into the Christmas cheer early over the weekend when real reindeer visited the High Street.

The annual Christmas parade took place in the High Street on Saturday (22) at the same time that St Peter's Nursery hosted a party in St Peter's Church, in Laleham Road.

Schoolchildren from all over the borough visited Spelthorne Council's offices on Friday November 13.

Pupils from ten primary schools, including Saxon Primary School, in Briar Road, Shepperton, and Our Lady of the Rosary, in Park Avenue, Staines, visited as part of the Junior Citizenship event, which saw each school deliver a presentation on what sporting activities they would like to see provided in the borough.

Children from Buckland Primary School in Laleham have been designing posters and creating songs in a campaign to save energy.

The Berryscroft Road school has been participating in a 'Switch off Fortnight' campaign to try and become a sustainable school and to raise awareness on how to save energy.

Children learnt how to plant vegetables and be eco-minded in a Laleham school on Monday September 21.

Buckland Primary School, in Berryscroft Road, held the day, which saw each class manage their own vegetable plot for the first time so they can grow they own produce.

Pupils were also encouraged to bring in a packed lunch to make it a waste free day, as well as being encouraged to walk to school.

Teacher Alison Pearce-Kelly, said: "This year everyone will have their own vegetable plot and we anticipate some healthy inter-class competition to see whose plot is the most productive."

Children were also encouraged to think about the environmental impact of eating imported food, and the importance of eating locally.

Strode's College are holding Adult Education Enrolment Evening on Tuesday September, 8 from 6pm until 8.30pm.

Fiture Dixieland musicians are in the making at Buckland Primary School in Laleham.

Year five pupils in the Berryscroft Road School have been undertaking cornet lessons after a music teacher called Susan Blandford was given 16 of the instruments by children's charity Operation Happy Child.

It's hot of the press, the Herald and News has competition.

Laleham Primary School, in The Broadway, Laleham, has started printing regular newspapers for people in the town, made solely by the pupils.

Wartime spirit

Pupils at Buckland Primary School in Laleham got into the wartime spirit on Friday February 27 with a visit to Chertsey Museum.

The year 5 children dressed up as evacuees and each took with them a Second World War-style packed lunch for the trip, which was arranged as part of their study of the war.

They spent the morning making model gas masks and the the afternoon looking around the exhibits at the Windsor Street museum.
